I’m Shane, and I thrive in experimentation, discovery, and building alignment to deliver impact and inclusive designs.

How did I get here?

After studying for an MA in Interaction design, I began my career at The UX Studio design agency. Here I had a chance to work collaboratively with talented teams to deliver impactful designs across different industries.

2017 - 2019

I then transitioned into working in house with Verv Energy on a product with a physical IoT product. It was a throwback to my industrial design days and taught me how to design around technical complexity.

2019 - 2020

in 2020 I took up a more senior role working at Compare the Market on products used my tens of millions of people. I refined my process and applied my skills to agile working. This was also my first experience managing.

2020 - 2023

Today, I am part of that fintech start-up life at Runa. Working fast, failing fast, learning fast. In a lead position I am contributing strategically to the direction of the product, and helping to create a culture of experimentation.

My key principles

📚 Become the product expert

By becoming the product expert, you can better anticipate user needs, make smarter decisions, and create solutions that balance usability with business goals. Deep product knowledge is what turns good design into impactful design.

💭 Strong opinions, loosely held

Brining conviction to ideas is key for stakeholder management. But so is knowing when to change them. Having strong opinions ensures bold, thoughtful solutions, holding them loosely ensures the right solution is brought forward.

🧪 Fail fast, learn faster

Experimentation is vital for successful product teams. By failing fast, we uncover what doesn’t work early, adapt quickly, and accelerate toward better solutions. Each test allows us to learn something and move forward.
